If you are wondering what I would like for Christmas this is a great gift. I love this statement. We should always live this out, knowing that everyday there is more than we see, understand, and experienced the day before. God has so much in store for us. These are all carved from blocks of wood. Ricky Swallow does things with wood that I can’t even imagine. Making hard things look soft is an art I have admired for years. My father used to make little abstract pieces of wood that he would sand and round until they look like soft little blobs of matter. My grandfather was and rock hound who would find agates and polish and smooth them until they shown with and inner life all their own. Ricky does the same with wood in a much deeper way. I recently had a chance to do my first music video. The band Viernes the track Swimmer’s Ear. It was really a fun challenge to work on this. Cinema 4D and Final Cut Express were my software options. I really wanted to capture the feeling of the medical condition of swimmer’s ear, “Swimmer’s ear is inflammation, irritation, or infection of the outer ear and ear canal. The medical term for swimmer’s ear is otitis externa. Disorientation and dizziness may happen in extreme cases of swimmer’s ear”. Check Viernes stuff here.

I am typically not a big fan off Microsoft, but when I came across this video I got really excited. This looks like a really good implementation of a keyboard free tablet like device. I like the variety of input styles, the different user interface ideas and the room to work. A big problem with Microsoft is great ideas poor implementation. However after having a little play with the Zune HD yesterday i think they may actually be able to pull of something like this in the next couple years. Check more info from Gizmodo here.

Amazing work of art. The setting, the sound, the painting, They all work together to bring about a crazy experience. My only issue is that there isn’t much of a cohesive narrative. Other works by BLU checked here.
Part of great photography is a beautiful subject. Joey Laurence has found amazing people of photograph in Ethiopia. His eye for light and subtle color is fantastic. He captures not just the physical beauty of these people but their rich cultural identity as well. I love the way the light reflects off the skin and in the eyes of these people. This is how art brings humanity together and helps us appreciate the power and beauty of the culture. What a wonderfully creative God we have to have built into us the ability to be so different and yet connected at the most basic level. Check it here.
Rosemarie Fiore is an artist from NYC who creates some amazingly organic pieces of art. These puppies look like they are some kinds of living organism soaked in ink and fluid of some kind. They look to be captured mid-flow by a slow motion macro lens. She created all these images on a large canvases (6ftx6ft) out of fireworks. Attaches smoke bombs and other pyrotechnics to a long stick and paints with them as they explode and erupt. What a great idea with an even greater result. Check her work here.
